Happy Earth Day!

Herbalism's roots are firmly planted in the community, and what better place to educate and share ideas than a blog! My intention here is to provide some on-line herbal education and to solicit questions and comments from the community. To receive an automatic email when new postings have been created, enter your email address in the sidebar to the right and follow the simple instructions that follow.

Herbal Workshops

I am interested in leading herbal workshops locally at the San Geronimo Valley Community Center and would like to know what topics interest you. Please take a moment to complete the poll found on the sidebar to the right entitled "What herbal workshop interests you the most". If you don't see a topic that interests you, please leave a comment about what you are interesting in. This will help me formulate a series of educational workshops based community input.

Welcome! Make a cup of herbal tea and let me know what's on your mind.

Hi Cheryl,
I'm happy to hear that you are interested in teaching classes at the SGVCC. I love living locally and so love it when people work with the community we have here. I'd love to learn how to make lavender essential oil, for example, how many lavender plants would I need to have in my yard to make some, and then how to actually make. Also very interested in learning about what plants I can grow at home to make herbal tea out of and how to dry the herbs for that and such. I love "doing it at home", so I always want to know how to do things at home, that I usually go to the store for. Thanks for putting yourself out there! I finally get to see a picture of you. I just know you by name.

Hi Florence,
Making essential oils is an art that requires lots of plant material and a distiller. I know of a wonderful herbalist and aromatherapist, Jeanne Rose, who teaches distillation classes. She has one coming up on May 31st near Williams, CA at the growers. Here's a link to her website for more information: http://www.jeannerose.net/distillations.html.

Thanks for your comments regarding your interest in local workshops. I intend to talk about how to dry herbs for teas in an upcoming "Herbs of West Marin" class. Hope to see you there!
